Last week, Peter boldly professed that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Today, however, Peter struggles when Jesus reveals that the road ahead includes suffering and the Cross.
Peter believes in Jesus and loves Him. But he still has to learn what faith really means. And so do we.
We can easily say, “Lord, I trust You,” while still wanting life to unfold according to our plans. Yet Jesus does not promise that following Him will eliminate our difficulties. He says, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
A relationship with Jesus gradually transforms us. We begin asking not simply, “What do I want?” but “Lord, what do You want?” We learn to trust Him even when we do not understand.
Jesus knows where the road leads. The One who asks us to carry our cross first carried His for us.
