Philip’s invitation to Nathanael in today’s Gospel is beautifully simple: “Come and see.”
The Christian life begins with an encounter. The Lord desires more than our knowledge about Him or our obedience to His teachings. He desires that we know Him, love Him, and live in relationship with Him.
As that relationship deepens and our love and trust grow, something happens: we naturally want others to know Jesus too.
Philip could have argued with Nathanael. He could have explained why Jesus was the Messiah or tried to answer his skepticism. Instead, he simply invited him: “Come and see.” Nathanael had to encounter Jesus for himself.
The same is true today. Our words about Jesus matter, but words alone are not enough. Perhaps our greatest witness is a life being transformed by Christ.
When others see His peace, joy, mercy, and love taking root in us, they may become curious about their source.
Then we can simply say: Come and see.
