Called to Be Saints
In today’s first reading, St. John gives us a beautiful vision of heaven: a great multitude, beyond counting, gathered before the throne of God, holding palm branches and praising God for the gift of salvation.
On Palm Sunday, the crowds waved palms and cried out, “Hosanna!”—a prayer meaning “Save us, we pray.” Now, in John’s vision, that prayer has been answered. Through Christ’s love, mercy, and sacrifice, salvation has been won.
Today we celebrate not only the great saints whose names we know, but countless others who lived lives of holiness in ordinary circumstances: parents, spouses, friends, and neighbors who faithfully responded to God’s grace.
In the second reading, St. John reminds us that we are already children of God, destined to see him face to face.
Holiness is not reserved for a select few. Jesus shows us the way through the Beatitudes: humility, mercy, purity of heart, and peace.
The saints were ordinary people who allowed God to make them holy.
That is our calling, too.
