There are many questions Jesus asks in the Gospels, but perhaps none is more important than this one: “Who do you say that I am?”
It is possible to know the right answer—to profess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God—and still keep Him at a distance. But Christianity is not simply knowing about Jesus. It is knowing Him.
A personal relationship with Jesus is at the heart of our Catholic faith. We speak to Him in prayer. We listen to Him in Scripture. We seek His forgiveness when we fail. We bring Him our fears, struggles, hopes, and decisions. Above all, we receive Him in the Eucharist.
Jesus does not want to be one more obligation squeezed into a busy life. He desires to be the One around whom our lives are built.
Today, hear His question personally: “Who am I to you?”
May our answer be more than words. May it become the way we live.
