In today’s Gospel, Jesus reveals the heart of the Servant of God. He does not seek attention or power but quietly brings healing, hope, and mercy to those who suffer. His compassion flows from the love of the Father.
The Church celebrates today the Memorial of St. Camillus de Lellis, whose life reflected that same compassion. A contemporary wrote of him, “In the sick he saw the person of Christ.” Yet Camillus was not always a faithful disciple. It was only after a profound conversion that he discovered the depth of Christ’s mercy and love for him. Having encountered that love, he could no longer look at others the same way. He recognized Christ in the suffering and dedicated his life to serving them with extraordinary charity.
The more deeply we experience the Lord’s love and mercy, the more our own hearts are transformed. Today, ask the Lord for the grace to see Christ in every person you meet and to serve Him with the same compassion He first showed to you.
