As I’ve been settling into St. Mary’s, I’ve have been trying to make a habit of a daily walk. As I have walked through the surrounding neighborhoods I’ve admired beautifully tended lawns and gardens. They didn’t become that way overnight. They required patience, care, and someone who knew when to water, prune, fertilize—and when simply to wait.
That image helps us understand today’s Gospel. When the servants want to pull up the weeds immediately, the master tells them to wait. He sees what they cannot.
How often we judge ourselves or others too quickly? We define people by past mistakes or convince ourselves we’ll never change. But God sees not only who we are today, but who we can become through His grace.
Like the tiny mustard seed or the yeast hidden in dough, God’s work is often quiet and unseen. Don’t lose heart if growth seems slow. Give God room to work. In His time, His grace will bear fruit.
