Moving to a new parish gave me an unexpected lesson. My goal was to fit everything I owned into one carload. I came close—but not quite. The hardest things to part with weren’t the large items. They were the little things: objects I rarely used but somehow couldn’t let go.
Our spiritual lives can be much the same. Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel call us to love Him above everything else. Often we think the greatest obstacles are life’s major struggles, but more often it is the small attachments, distractions, worries, and habits that quietly fill our hearts. They may not be sinful, but they can leave little room for the Lord.
When we let go of what we don’t truly need, we create space for something greater. Today, ask the Lord to reveal what may be cluttering your heart. His invitation is not simply to give things up, but to make more room for His love.
