Today’s Readings

In today’s Gospel, two very different reactions greet Jesus after He heals a man possessed by a demon. The crowds are filled with amazement, while the Pharisees dismiss His work and seek to discredit Him. Why the difference? The Pharisees are so focused on protecting their own understanding of God, their status, and their way of life that they cannot recognize God’s grace at work before their eyes.

Before criticizing them, we should examine our own hearts. How often do our assumptions, fears, or prejudices keep us from seeing the Lord at work in unexpected people or situations?

Jesus sees beyond appearances. He looks upon every person with compassion, recognizing the deep longing for God that exists in every human heart. Rather than condemning those who seem far from Him, He calls His disciples to pray and to become laborers in His harvest. Today, let us ask for eyes that see with Christ’s compassion and hearts ready to lead others to Him.
