Creating Space for God

Today’s Readings

Today’s first reading from Hosea speaks a word that many of us need to hear: “I will lead her to the desert and speak to her heart.”

Since my recent move, my home has been filled with half-unpacked boxes and belongings waiting to find their place. A new parish, a new routine, and new responsibilities have also brought countless distractions—physical, mental, and spiritual.

The Lord’s invitation reminds me that there will always be unfinished tasks and pressing responsibilities. If I wait until everything is in perfect order before I pray, I will never truly listen to Him.

The desert is not simply a place. It is any space where we intentionally set aside the noise and allow God to speak to our hearts. Sometimes that even means putting aside prayer books or the rosary for a few moments and simply resting in His presence.

Today, let us make room for silence. In that quiet, the Lord still speaks words of love, peace, and renewed faith.
