Living in Love with God

Today’s Readings

The young man in today’s Gospel asks a question we all struggle with at times: “What must I do?”

We long for fulfillment, joy, peace, greater faith, and deeper trust in the Lord. Yet when we ask what we must do, we often begin by looking at ourselves. Jesus points us in another direction: toward Him.

Jesus tells the young man to sell his possessions, give to the poor, and follow Him. His possessions have become an obstacle. They are weighing him down and preventing him from finding what his heart truly desires.

Most of us are not called to give away everything like St. Francis of Assisi. But all of us are called to detachment.

And it may not be possessions. It could be our phones, gossip, comfort, laziness, resentment, or ambition.

Whatever competes with Christ for our hearts, He invites us to surrender.

Perhaps today the question is not simply, “What must I do?” but “What must I let go of so I can follow Him more freely?”
