Jesus often withdrew from the crowds to pray. In today’s Gospel, He goes up the mountain alone. That simple detail offers an important lesson for our own spiritual lives.
This is not Jesus praying in the synagogue or with others. It is personal, quiet time with His Father. He intentionally steps away from the demands of ministry, the expectations of the crowds, and even the company of His disciples. He also leaves behind the familiar, choosing a place where distractions are few.
We need that kind of prayer as well. At home, our attention is easily pulled toward chores, unfinished projects, or the constant buzz of our phones. Even prayer apps, while helpful, can become another source of distraction when notifications interrupt our conversation with God.
Jesus reminds us that prayer is not simply something we fit into a busy day. Sometimes we need to step away, be still, and give the Lord our undivided attention. In that silence, He renews our hearts and strengthens us for the work ahead.
