19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today’s Readings

St. Augustine once said, “There is no love without hope, no hope without love, and neither love nor hope without faith.” These timeless words remind us that faith is the foundation for the joy, peace, and fulfillment we seek. Yet, faith is often misunderstood or neglected—even by believers.

Scripture shows us that faith is both a gift from God and our response to Him. In the Old Testament, it is rooted in relationship; in the New Testament, it also embraces belief—especially in Jesus Christ. As Hebrews tells us, “Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.” Faith unites relationship and belief, leading to hope that sustains us in trials and keeps our hearts fixed on Christ.

Faith bears fruit. It moves us to action, strengthens our communities, and draws us closer to the Good Shepherd. This weekend, Bishop da Cunha invites us to reflect on the priesthood—through which Christ continues to forgive in Reconciliation and feed us in the Eucharist. Vocations grow in families and parishes, nurtured by prayer, encouragement, and witness.
