In today’s Gospel, the disciples are caught in a storm. The wind howls, the boat rocks, and fear closes in. So focused on the danger around them, they fail to recognize Jesus drawing near — they mistake Him for a ghost.
How often we live the same way. Life tosses us from one problem to the next: unexpected burdens, worries we didn’t choose, responsibilities that stretch us thin. The more we are battered, the narrower our vision becomes. We fixate on the storm — on stress, anxiety, and frustration — and we miss the quiet signs of God’s goodness. We forget to look for Christ standing beside us.
Daily prayer and our time at the Lord’s Table re-awaken our hearts. They train us to recognize His presence, even in chaos. With our eyes fixed on Jesus, the storms may not disappear — but they will not sweep us away.
