God is Near

Today’s Readings

The prophet Isaiah reminds us that the Lord is not a distant or indifferent deity waiting to be appeased. God is Love itself. We were created out of that love and in His own image. Because of this, He is always present—calling, guiding, and reaching toward us with tenderness and mercy.

St. Paul VI once preached that God’s attitude toward us is invitation, compassion, friendship, and goodness—a remedy for our wounds and nourishment for our souls. The Lord has given us His Church as the means of salvation, so that every person may come to know His promises and experience His transforming love. Through the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, He sustains us and heals us.

This Advent, take advantage of God’s closeness. Come to the Eucharist, and receive the gift of His forgiveness. He longs to renew your heart and draw you closer to Himself.
