Do Not Be Afraid

Today’s Readings

In today’s first reading, Adam hides from God in fear and shame. His disobedience leads to blame, division, and a desire to cover himself. We recognize this pattern in our own lives: when we sin, we often try to hide—from God, from others, even from ourselves. Our true identity, however, is found only in the God who created us in His image and desires us to live in His love.

This solemnity reminds us that God’s plan never stopped with Adam’s “no.” In Mary, we see a joyful and courageous “yes.” She does not hide from God but receives Him with trust. Where sin brings fear, Mary shows us the freedom that comes from opening our hearts completely to the Lord.

Today God speaks the same words to us that He spoke through the angel: Do not be afraid. His grace forgives, heals, and restores us as beloved sons and daughters.
