Living Our Anointing

Today’s Readings

The first reading today is often proclaimed at Confirmation Masses, reminding us that as Christ was anointed and sent by the Father, we too—through the anointing of Chrism and the gifts of the Holy Spirit—are sent as His missionary disciples. To live this identity faithfully, we must place our trust in God’s love and not be overwhelmed by the demands and distractions of the world.

Advent is the season the Church gives us to renew this center. It gently reminds us that while life brings real challenges, our true hope is not found in the world but in God’s perfect love. The Christmas lights, music, and simple joys of the season offer comfort, but for Christians they are also signs pointing us back to Christ. Hope, peace, joy, love, and goodwill are not seasonal sentiments—they are the daily way of life God desires for His people and for our world.
