Beauty, Grace and the Strength to Persevere

Today’s Readings

In today’s first reading, during a moment of great suffering, a mother encourages her youngest son to stay strong in faith. She points his attention to creation: “Look at the heavens and the earth and see all that is in them; then you will know that God did not make them out of existing things.” (2 Maccabees 7)

Her wisdom is timeless. When life grows chaotic—shorter days, added responsibilities, holiday pressures—we can feel overwhelmed or scattered. Yet, creation quietly invites us to pause, breathe, and remember. Beauty, goodness, and truth reflect God’s presence. The sunrise, a child’s laughter, a quiet snowfall, or the night sky—these are reminders that our lives are held by the One who created everything from nothing.

When we learn to look, we rediscover God’s nearness. He offers not just beauty, but grace—grace that strengthens our faith, lifts our burdens, and helps us persevere in love, day by day.
