I Believe: Anchoring Ourselves to Faith

Today’s Readings

As the days grow shorter and darkness settles in earlier, we feel the shift not only in the weather but in our spirits. Cold winds, raw days, and dim afternoons can weigh on us—and then we come to church and hear readings that sound like doom and gloom: “The day is coming, blazing like an oven…” It’s no wonder our culture rushes toward Christmas lights and music. We are searching for hope, for joy, for the reminder that darkness does not win.

Into this moment Jesus says, “Do not be terrified.” God has something greater in store for us than anything this fading world can offer. Every Sunday we proclaim the Creed, declaring, “I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.” These are words of promise and identity.

The Creed grounds us. It reminds us who we are and whose we are. When we say “I believe,” we profess trust in God’s promises and anchor ourselves in His light. This week, let those words settle deeply in your heart—and let them steady you when the days grow dark.
