Living in the Lord’s Mercy

Today’s Readings

In today’s reading from Romans, St. Paul opens his heart and shares the inner struggle every disciple knows so well: “For I do not do the good I want, but I do the evil I do not want” (Rom 7:19). His honesty is not a sign of despair but of deep faith. In admitting his weakness, Paul reminds us that the Christian life is not about perfection achieved by our own strength, but about trust in God’s love, mercy, and the grace that transforms us.

Each Friday, the Church invites us to engage in acts of penance — not to dwell on guilt or failure, but to renew our hearts in love. It is a time to reflect, to acknowledge where we have fallen short, and to turn again to Christ who never tires of forgiving. With the Lord, it is always about moving forward in relationship with Him. He desires that we live each day in His love so that, one day, we may be united with Him in perfect love forever.
