In today’s Gospel, Jesus says something that stops us in our tracks: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” (Lk 12:49). These are not comfortable words. They remind us that the Christian life is not about staying safe or settled—it’s about letting Christ set our hearts on fire with His love.
That fire purifies, transforms, and sometimes divides. When we take our faith seriously, it challenges the way we live, the choices we make, and even the relationships we keep. But that is the cost—and the gift—of discipleship. Jesus doesn’t call us to a shallow peace; He calls us to the deep peace that comes only from conversion.
Let us ask the Lord to set our hearts ablaze with His love-so that through our witness, His fire may spread throughout our homes, our parishes, and our city.
