Living in the World, but not of the World

Reflection for Monday October 6

Today’s Readings

St. Bruno heard the Lord’s call to leave the world behind, embracing poverty, silence, and solitude. Few are called to such a life, yet all of us are called to live simply and to keep Christ at the center of our lives.

To live in the world but not of it means giving thanks to God for all He has given and recognizing His presence in the people we encounter each day. It means setting aside self-centeredness and learning to live for God and for others.

Simplicity also involves how we use our time. It is good to slow down, to make room for silence and prayer, and not be consumed by constant activity. Forgiveness and mercy keep our hearts free for love.

Most importantly, we must make time each day for the Lord—whether through a few moments of prayer, daily Mass, or Confession. The Lord continually invites us to deeper faith and love. May we respond with open hearts, like St. Bruno.
