Jesus never hides the cost of discipleship. In today’s Gospel, He reminds us that to follow Him requires sacrifice. But this sacrifice is not meant to drain our joy or leave us burdened. Quite the opposite—it is the path to true freedom and love.
A holy life is not an unhappy life. Rather, holiness is found in the joy of knowing that we belong to God and live as His beloved children. When Christ is the center and priority of our lives, everything else falls into its proper place. But if we place ourselves, our ambitions, or worldly pursuits at the center, we quickly discover how restless and empty that life becomes.
Sacrifice, then, is about letting go of what distracts us from Christ. It is a pruning that makes room for grace. By releasing our attachment to control, possessions, or selfish desires, we open our hearts to recognize the truth, beauty, and goodness of God all around us.
Today, ask the Lord to reveal what you need to surrender so that you may follow Him with greater freedom. Pray for the strength to give yourself to Him without reservation, confident that His way leads not to loss, but to life.
