Today’s Readings
In today’s Office of Readings, St. Paul exhorts us: “Conduct yourselves in a way worthy of the Gospel of Christ” (Phil 1:27). Those words stood out all the more when paired with today’s Gospel.
Jesus sends His disciples ahead to prepare the way, but they are met with rejection: “they would not welcome him.” The disciples react as we often might—with anger, wanting to fight back. But Jesus rebukes them. His way is not retaliation, but mercy.
To live worthy of the Gospel means following Christ’s path of love and patience, even toward those who oppose or dismiss us. This is not easy; in fact, by ourselves it is impossible. But united to Christ, we receive both His forgiveness when we fall short and the grace to persevere.
Each day, we are invited to let His mercy shape our words and actions—so that, even in rejection, we become living witnesses of His Gospel.
