Today’s Readings

In the psalm at Mass today we hear the psalmist sing, “I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart.” These are words not only to hear but to live. Gratitude opens our eyes to the many ways God is at work—from the great blessings that shape our lives to the small, hidden gifts of each day. In giving thanks, we also acknowledge our human limitations and make room for God’s love to dwell more fully within us.

Today the Church also honors the optional Memorial of St. Robert Bellarmine. In the Office of Readings, we hear from his work On the Ascent of the Mind to God, where he writes: “If you are wise, then, know that you have been created for the glory of God and your own salvation. This is your goal; this is the center of your life; this is the treasure of your heart.” His words remind us that gratitude and love for God are not passing emotions but the very foundation and goal of Christian living.

To live this way requires a total commitment of ourselves—seeing all things through the lens of God’s love, not our own self-centered perspective. Such surrender begins with thanksgiving.

Today, let us pause to thank the Lord—for the big things and the little things alike. And let us seek to weave thanksgiving into our daily routine, so that God remains always at the center of our lives and the treasure of our hearts.
