Today’s Readings

In today’s first reading, St. Paul reminds us that prayer is not meant to be narrow or self-focused. We are called to pray not only for ourselves, not only for those we love, or even just for fellow believers—but for everyone. Why? Because, as Paul writes, God “wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim 2:4).

This truth points us to the very foundation of Christian life: prayer. Prayer grounds who we are, what we do, and what we are about. It keeps us rooted in Christ. Without prayer, even the best intentions can easily drift into self-centeredness or distraction.

In the Gospel, Jesus entrusts us to His mother. At the heart of discipleship is this invitation to remain close to Christ as Mary did. Pope Francis often reminded us that we are called to be “missionary disciples.” The renewal of our parishes, our Church, and our world begins in prayer—through the intercession of Mary, and through our daily turning to God.

Let us ask the Blessed Mother to pray with us and for us. May her example of fidelity help us remain focused on the Lord in all that we do.
