On Sunday, the Holy Father will canonize Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati and Blessed Carlo Acutis. It is important to remember that canonization does not add any honor to them—it simply recognizes what already is: that they are in heaven, living in perfect communion with the Lord. The Church raises them up not for their sake, but for ours. Canonizations are meant to encourage and inspire us on our own journey, reminding us that the goal of the Christian life is nothing less than sanctity. We are all called to become saints.
St. Paul reminds us of this truth in today’s reading. Through baptism we were brought into a unique relationship with Christ and set upon the path of discipleship. This journey, whose length on earth is unknown, is not about controlling the future but about keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. Our focus must be on living in love with Him each day. To guide us along the way, He has given us the Sacraments—especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation. He has entrusted us with the Scriptures to illuminate our steps. And He has given us the family of faith, the Church, to support and strengthen us.
Like Pier Giorgio and Carlo, may we walk with confidence toward the fullness of life in Christ, our true and final destination.
