Thursday, Memorial of St. Pius X

Today’s Readings

Today’s Memorial of St. Pius X holds special meaning for us in the Diocese of Fall River. In 1904, we became the very first diocese he established as Pope. His papal motto, drawn from Ephesians 1:10—“To restore all things in Christ”—is especially relevant for us in 2025.

Bishop da Cunha has invited us to “rebuild in faith and hope,” reminding us of our identity as disciples of Jesus Christ and our mission to live and proclaim the Gospel. When we take this call seriously—when we allow Christ to shape our lives and actions—our parishes are renewed, becoming vibrant communities of faith, hope, and love.

St. Paul VI echoed this same urgency for evangelization when he wrote:
“But as for us, can we gain salvation if through negligence or fear or shame—what St. Paul called ‘being ashamed of the gospel’ (Rom 1:16)—or as a result of false ideas we fail to preach it? For that would be to betray the call of God, who wishes the seed to bear fruit through the voice of the ministers of the Gospel… Let us therefore preserve our fervor of spirit. Let us preserve the delightful and comforting joy of evangelizing.” (Evangelii Nuntiandi, 80)

On this feast, let us ask for the prayers of St. Pius X, that we may remain steadfast as disciples of Christ. May we place our trust and hope in Him, and courageously share His love and His message in every opportunity given to us today.
