Today is the Memorial of St. John Vianney, patron saint of parish priests. The Gospel for this day reminds us of the great task entrusted to all of us who have been baptized: the proclamation of the Gospel to all the world. The mission field within Our Lady of Fall River Catholic Community is great and we all have a role to play in proclaiming the Gospel to the 23,000+ who live within our Community. It is the priests who support us in this effort through their prayers and encourage, but most especially through their ministry at the Altar, in the celebration of the Mass, and the other Sacraments, particularly Reconciliation.
Today the priests of the Diocese of Fall River gather with Bishop da Cunha for a special time of prayer and an act of consecration to St. John Vianney. The Office for Clergy Support has offered the following prayer to be prayed for our priests:
St. John Vianney, patron of parish priests, intercede for our priests as they consecrate themselves to you. Inspire them with your zeal, sustain them in their trials, and enkindle their people to holiness. Strengthen them in their vocation so that, through their renewed priesthood, our parishes may flourish, and our Church may be made strong. Amen.
