Today’s Collect reminds us that without God, nothing has firm foundation. Yet how easily we forget that truth. We often rely on our own strength and fall into the illusion of control. Saint Augustine spoke of two cities: the earthly—marked by love of self—and the heavenly—defined by love of God. Our life’s defining choice is whether we seek a relationship with Jesus, who draws us into communion with the Father.
In recent weeks, the liturgy has shown us that love of God and neighbor is at the heart of the Christian life. This week, Jesus teaches us how to pray: Ask, seek, knock. His example is simple, honest, and rooted in trust.
Do we truly seek God—or just answers? Real prayer draws us into deeper intimacy with God, forming the foundation we need to face life’s challenges. Without that foundation, even small trials can overwhelm us. But with it, we are anchored in faith, hope, and love.
