Monday, Memorial of St. Lawrence of Brindisi

Today’s Readings

Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians, “For we do not preach ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord.” All of us who have been baptized are disciples of Jesus Christ. We have a share in the mission of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our world today, each according to our state in life. This is done not only in the words we speak, but our actions throughout the day.

The Gospel we live and proclaim is not our own, it is Jesus’. We are called to speak, live and share the Truth, not harshly or as a threat, but in a loving, inviting way as modelled by Jesus himself in the Gospels.

We were reminded on Sunday that prayer must the foundation of our lives. Prayer is what keeps us connected to Jesus and living His ways and sharing His message. The Scriptures must be a part of this prayer-using the Word of God to unite our hearts and minds to the Lord.

St. Lawrence Brindisi preached, “For the Word of God is a light to the mind and a fire to the will. It enables man to know God and to love him.”
