Today’s Readings

Life can wear us down—not just from the demands others place on us, but also from the expectations we place on ourselves. This is especially true in our spiritual lives. We often struggle with sin, and in response, we may create burdensome rules or standards for ourselves that only end up discouraging us and setting us up for failure.

God has given us divine commandments meant to guide us in love and truth. Over time, additional rules and practices have developed to help us live those commandments more fully. But when these human-made rules take center stage, we risk losing sight of the heart of God’s law.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers us something different. He doesn’t call us to carry more burdens, but to walk with Him. He invites us into a relationship of love and trust, where we are strengthened and comforted by His presence. It is only in walking with Christ that we find the grace to live out God’s will in peace and freedom.
