In the Gospel we hear Jesus engaged in His mission: calling people back to the Lord and offering them healing. The healing comes after the teaching and proclamation. When people hear the Word of God, they recognize their woundedness and their need for the Lord’s forgiveness and healing. Often in the Gospels when the Lord heals someone who is possessed, crippled, blind, etc., the person’s reaction is often to speak words of praise to God. This teaches us that our wounds, our sins, prevent us from living in right relationship with Him and prevent us from living a life that praises God in our words and deeds.
The Lord continues His mission in our world today, he does so through the Church, the people of God. St. Paul VI said, “the responsibility for spreading the Gospel that saves belongs to everyone…The missionary duty concerns the whole body of the Church; in different ways and to different degrees, it is true, but we must all of us be united in carrying out this duty.”
Today, pray for more laborers for the harvest. Pray to discern where the Lord is calling you to be his laborer today.
