Wednesday of the 6th Week of Easter

Today’s Readings

In the short Gospel today we are reminded that our life of faith and growing in our identity as a child of God is a lifelong process that involves continual openness to learning about the Lord and His teachings. As finite creatures we are unable to fully comprehend all truth. That is why last week we read in the Acts of the Apostles the early Church gathering in Jerusalem to discern through prayer and discussion the Lord’s will in a particularly situation the Church was facing.

‘Faith Formation’, ‘religious education’, whatever we want to call it is a lifelong process. We grow into a deeper understanding of the Lord and his teachings over time, an exercise that involves other people in our lives. This is why small groups are so important in the life of the Church. They are the most effective means of growing in faith and love of the Lord and others as well as of parish renewal. Our journey of faith needs to involve walking with others, helping one another to grow in wisdom and truth.
