Today’s Readings

“My soul thirsts for God, the living God.”

These words of the psalmist in Psalm 42 speak of the desire for God that we believe has been implanted in the human heart by God himself. It is experienced as a desire for something more, for meaning, love, truth, beauty and goodness.

This desire is a ‘fulfilling desire’ in that the more we seek to satisfy this desire with God’s love and Word, the more energized and joyful we become and the stronger the desire for God within us.

When we seek to satisfy this desire with the things of the world we feel emptiness. The desire causes us to ache and we experience discouragement.

Jesus, the Good Shepherd, offers us what we desire the most. The more we give ourselves to Him the more we experience joy.
