Today there are two sets of readings possible, one for the Second Week of Easter and another for the St. Joseph the Worker. In prayer this morning a thought formed using readings from both settings.
In St. Paul’s Letter to the Colossians, he writes, “Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of Jesus.” The life of the Christian is one of constant praise and devotion to the Lord. At the end of Mass we hear, “The Mass is ended, go in peace”. However, the word ‘Mass’ means to be sent. What we celebrate at the Altar of God is then meant to continue throughout the day and the week. How do we do that? Let’s look at the Gospel for Thursday of the Second Week of Easter.
The Gospel passage continues with John Chapter 3. “For the one God sent speaks the words of God.” John has been telling us the last few days and today that the whole point of Jesus coming into the world was our salvation. When we live in love with Christ, we are drawn into the divine life and find ourselves on the path towards that salvation. Jesus’ teachings, as found in the Gospels and in His Church, teach us and guide us in this relationship with the Lord.
